Mission

In unity with ACS’s  general vision, ACS Music- ROCK THE MESSAGE will challenge students to serve God humbly, in the spirit of excellence; by expanded knowledge of music as a dynamic, integral link between God and His People.

This is Three-Fold: The WORD, The HEART, and The MUSIC.

The Word…

Music was originated by God, as a form of worship, which is His command of His people.  (Exodus 3:18, 15:1)  Music as worship has a distinct purpose. (Psalm 86:8, 9)  The Father desires an increase in our worship, as we deepen our faith in Him.  Whether or not music is our “thing”, it can be a step in that direction.

The Heart…

Music, in any form, defines who we are. It gives us passion and life.  The king once stood during Handel’s Messiah, and now everyone does it.  At a hard rock concert, there are moments of silence, with everyone’s cell phones raised.  The heart involves character and creativity.  Humility in music will be discussed in depth.  Students will be given tools to allow them to explore composition & improvisation.

The Music…

There is a lot of music out there. We’ll discuss time periods in musical history-Primitive, Church, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, & Electronic.We’ll look at Music Theory, Composition, Music’s Cultural Influence, and Vocal & Instrumental Functions.  We’ll explore the testimonies and styles of the varied genres of today’s Christian music-Acoustic, Alternative, Contemporary, Techno, Gospel, Pop, Praise & Worship, R & B, Hip-Hop, & Rock.  Composers from all time periods, as well as today, have their own styles and stories.  We’ll get to know some of them.
